Spring Trends: How to Style

Spring is in full swing and there are plenty of gorgeous fashion trends to try out in this warmer weather. We saw them on the runway; pastels, florals, mini skirts, denim, lace, and much more, but how do we actually style them? Well, not to worry! We took to Polyvore to create styling guides for the top three spring trends this season: 60’s Mod Chic, Denim on Denim, and Festival Vibes.

The main 60’s trend we saw everywhere on the runway was minis. This can be in the form of a dress, a skort, or a skirt, as long as it’s about mid thigh. The most common 60’s silhouette was a shift dress, sleeveless, with a high neckline and small darts at the bust. Also cute collars were popular, as well as pleating, and button ups. Colors and patterns ranged from light pastels in solid colors to bright, bold patterns. Fabrics such as gingham, brocade, and silk were also quite common and of course we can’t forget the platform heels and cat eye sunglasses.

Denim on DenimScreen Shot 2015-03-30 at 9.59.48 PM

We’ve mentioned it before, but the denim trend is too huge to ignore. The best way to pull off this look effortlessly is to play with different washes and weights. If you’re wearing a heavy weight dark jean, then pair it with a lighter wash chambray top. Another trend we saw with the denim was distressing. Whether this came in the form of holes and rips, or raw edges and unfinished hems, the “undone” look is very popular. Accessories are unlimited, after all, this is denim we’re talking about, it’s the ultimate neutral. We chose to stay fairly casual with trendy white converse and a chic drawstring bag.

Festival VibesScreen Shot 2015-03-30 at 9.59.24 PM

Spring marks the beginning of festival season, which means hippie chic, flowing fabrics, bold colors, cool to wear, and of course dance functionality. Whether or not someone is going to an actual music festival, this style seems to boom in spring and summer. This season, we’re bound to see plenty of crochet lace, chiffon, silk, and breathable cotton. Rompers, maxi skirts, crop tops, and light dresses are extremely popular; along with fringe, paisley, art deco prints, and florals. Accessorize with strappy sandals, most likely gladiator style, and big floppy hats.
