I always think it is more important to hire an independent sales rep that hits the road instead of an independent sales rep who mainly works out of their showroom. Esp. when getting a line established and being viewed by the largest number of retail buyers. The smaller territories ( Mid-Atlantic, Denver, Boston, Chicago) will have more road reps to choose from vs. the larger territories ( Los Angeles, New York, Dallas,) In Los Angeles, many reps now travel the road along with having their showroom. It has become necessary since buyers don’t travel as much anymore. Also, when hiring an independent sales rep who owns a showroom, you will pay a monthly showroom fee (anywhere from $300 – $1500 per month) along with the 12% – 15% commission rates on all sales.
